    MISPLACEMENT

    .

……….For me, eroticism tickles the uncomfortable; it’s the delicate play of contrasting themes, acting perversely to make the viewer experience the combative feelings of ease and unease. It’s the product of a dichotomy between overt sexuality and something that both pushes you back and draws you in. What defines erotic as erotic is precisely this interaction. The concept of seeing only enough to force you to fill in the rest plays strongly with my views of eroticism, allowing a not-fully nude image to sometimes be more sexually driven than one where everything is purely raw.

    .

As a deeper conversation with the viewer, the creation of a scene which beckons for an accompanying narrative causes the interaction to deepen. In the end, it doesn’t matter if the story is the same as the stories imagined by all the others, nor the story imagined by the subject at the time of creation, as long as it is one that spawns a desire to know the character and know how the depicted situation managed to occur.

    .

In order to embody these themes and appropriately have them relate to the ‘philo’ environment located at UPenn’s College Hall, I imagined one half of the dynamic play to involve the concept of purity and intellectual soundness. The Philomathean Halls are gilded with knowledge, so a fair counter would be one that’s slightly disturbing and somewhat scandalous, which would eject itself from the ‘ivy-bubble’ as much as possible. To show eroticism, I plan to pose myself in an uncomfortable, tied-up fashion, as if just left in this building, for non-specific torture to ensue. Such would invoke much internal conversation, a discomfort with the image, and a great contrast with the neat, orderly, olden feel of the library.

This recent shoot truly symbolizes this time period of my life where many “epiphany” moments seem to just keep on occurring. A more polished, sleek, mature look coupled with “edgier” fashion in these photos accurately depicts my new found self-confidence and Leo pride! The energy and aura captured in these images truly expresses my charisma, and refreshed appetite for life.

    Jennifer Cole

    .

Below is a list I came up with which through my experience, has shown me the ways I see myself maturing into the kind of woman I want to maintain:

    .

What it is to really “Grow up”.
    .

    1. Taking better care of my physical self.
    2. Dealing with my emotions and fears directly instead of numbing the pain.
    3. Accepting failure & defeat as a means of forming new learning opportunities, thus becoming wiser, and stronger.
    4. Walking through life with a strong confidence in my step.
    5. Letting go of what I can’t control.

…..When asked recently what was the inspiration by this art work: Just a woman always used by men for her beauty. A woman who would have been loved, but also a woman who loved playing this seduction game with her body, her sexiness, her feminine desires. I created a magic witch – which made men come to her but who didn’t find the way to keep one with her forever.

The link between the drawing and this recent self-portrait represents this ongoing search, the cool balance to use the females power over man, and find how to capture more than desires and smiles: find how to be the magic one.

STRIPPED: A Tony Ward Studio Exclusive Blog Series – Part 4

    .

……….Two songs seemed like a lot but I was already a pro after my last audition. I felt at ease knowing the girls weren’t all watching and hoping I’d fall of stage. I went through the routine with much less anxiety compared to my first audition. I felt comfortable and confident. After introducing myself to the bar patrons, I received an abundant amount of positive feedback – along with about 23 dollars in ones. I got dressed and headed to the back and filled out yet another application: although I really started wondering what kind of background you really needed to get hired other than being able to dance and have a social security number.

    .

I was hired on the spot and was told to call the next day to go over my schedule. I left feeling excited and energized. I found my new home and Brooke Lynne was born. All I needed to do now was figure exactly what a “G-string” was and get one in every color!

  • Sonrya Sanjaraya: Self-Portrait as Marilyn

    Sonrya as Marilyn Monroe

Posted on March 24, 2012 by Sonrya Sanjaraya

    .

…….I created this self-portrait as Marilyn, and a question to go with it, when i was 18 years old. I started modeling when I was 3 years of age – and all around the world. I studied the fine arts at Bordeaux Beaux – Arts school in France. At that time, I was already asking myself: how could a woman who is also a star (Marilyn Monroe), beloved for her beauty, sex appeal and youth, accept the aging process and to see the years going by?

    .

How could she continue and find a balance between all the love given by everyone to her image: and the lack of real love she could have experienced in her actual life? Being an idol and to be so much loved – is also like being all alone, and when you don’t enjoy loneliness how could she have managed it everyday without falling…?

    ON BEING SEXY……….

    .

……….I think the things that most inspire me are real emotions. If I’m having an “off ” day during a shoot, I like to think of my favorite sex symbols/icons and try and channel them. It’s like playing a character in a movie and you get to be someone else for a little while. I think most of all, you can’t focus on your imperfections. Confidence is the key to pulling off being sexy! Not to mention, it helps to have a guy like TW behind the lens. This was our very first shoot and I was nervous. You wonder what the photographer thinks when he looks at you. Tony and I talked the entire shoot, he felt like an old friend almost immediately. First shoots can be really awkward but I really felt confident and beautiful.. I think it really shows through our work!

    Cute Recedes

    .

    CUTE RECEDES

    .

    Cute has an expiration date
Maybe a few days past it’s prime of 21 it ends
    Not so jiggly
    Not so wiggly
And, sure as hell not giggly
Cute is in a battle that is always lost
Lost to a younger model of the YOU that you used to be
    Stolen by gravity
What was cute when you are twenty, turns tragic in decades higher
    Cute can straddle a spotlight
Yet, wise old bird can always gather enough stardust for itself
Cute can squawk in a chirp of mediocrity
Wise wing hums a melody of mature grace
Shall the keeper of the birdcage be blinded by the glitter?
    Cute recedes….
