……….I would like to thank all of the contributors, friends and colleagues who have supported TWS over the course of an extraordinary year of growth. You have made this a very special year for the audience that follows TWS. Your contributions have been most inspiring. I look forward to the coming year with great enthusiasm, anticipation, and the expectation that our audience will continue to grow and expand – well in to the new year and years to come.
.
I would like to especially thank my colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania for providing an exceptional venue to share information, and most importantly, the students who have taught me the joy and importance of teaching. Happy New Year!

……….I wanted to capture the holiday spirit in America, loving consumerism. This year was the first year I’ve ever been Black Friday shopping and it completely changed the way I view the holidays.
.
.
.
I was beginning to feel that the loving, religious nature of the season was being overshadowed by the materialism promoted through society. I wanted to use my camera to see what it really was.
.
.
I used the subject of an innocent window shopper exploring what the season really was. She is exposed to the sales and materialism in the shops, but her naivety preserves the wonder and magical nature of the holidays.

……….Thinking about the Occupy Wall Street movement and the mass arrests across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday, October 1, 2011; I couldn’t let my pen stay silent. This poem is titled, “UNITY”.
.
“Unity is what the ruling class fears most. When the 99 percent unite against the 1 percent, then things in this country will make a shift towards equality for all. Roaring river of righteousness will wash over those heightened fences of hubris which those of closed ears & minds inhabit. Unity is the brass key to unlock a brighter future for us all. Our raised voices are the defiance that will rock the foundations of white gloved arrogance. UNIFY & DEFY..!!”
Editor’s Note: This is the second collaboration of TWS contributors for the re-election of President Barack Obama.

REMEMBER
.
Remember the day
Remember the sky of blue
Remember the disbelief
Remember what was tall, became so small
Remember where you were when the plumes filled the air
Remember the yells
Remember the smells
Remember the tears
Remember the victims, the chattering class says
But, it’s easy to say a few words about this upcoming day
Reverence should replace remembrance
For actions speak louder than a sorrowful swath of words
Actions are for those who have had to plead for what they deserved all along
Dust of death trapped in the lungs of the lionhearted souls
Caustic cough of carnage has become their rusted reward
Remember the heroes and pat them on the back
It’s gotta be more than just a photo op once a year
And, to think when the decade anniversary comes around
People who’ve been allergic to NYC come to town
Flags will wave and the solemn ceremony will take place
Cameras will get the perfect shot of tears rolling down a sad face
Remember those who were lost on a day in September
Not for the politicos who grab bullhorns and boast
Not for the media, who rides misery into the ground
Remember September 11th, because we all changed that day
Trio of locations where tragedy flowed, shall forever remain a engraved upon our souls
Remember that within a decade’s timeline, a switch can take place
Transformation from solidarity’s sympathy, can easily pass through a reflected maze into a hornet’s nest of hubris
Remember the past
Remember the present
Future is shaped by us all
