……….There was something exhilarating and joyful the first time I cut my own tree, carried it out of a forest, tied it to a saddle horn and dragged it back to my home. The holidays were here and everything about it was special. The deep snow, finding what I felt was the right tree, and doing something with it I had always wanted to do and had never seen done before. Decorating it with white lights, peaches, red velvet roses, and garlands of pearls.
.
Being my first Christmas in Montana I had no idea what to expect from my friends and neighbors, as it turned out I got comments like, “That is the most beautiful tree I have ever seen,” to “That is certainly different.” It was an experience I’ll never forget and still do.
.
The germ for this photograph came out of that experience, and every time I see it I am reminded of the day I first cut down my own Christmas tree.
