……….These visual narratives are based on a person’s unsuccessful, half-hearted attempts to deal with their addictions.Once upon a time, I rather naively became involved with a person with addiction problems. I found myself agreeing to help her steer clear of the pull and found myself using words to point out some obvious directions: such as, stop hanging out with your party going enabler friends.
.
.
Or, maybe attending AA meetings and accepting that your addictions are bigger than you, might be the answer. From her I would receive words of con?rmation.
.
.
Her actions were a different matter. So the cycle would begin all over again. This is when I decided that painting her cocaine and alcohol fueled nightmares, might be the best way to serve her as a Lover/Therapist.
.
.
The relationship quickly became estranged, and I was released from competing with a bottle. In this series, I decided that since I was the creator I would play the Enabler as opposed to the Gentleman Boy Scout/Therapist. As it would seem that since nothing was going to change, I might as well go to the party.

Benjamin Laden: Thanks for this posting. I love Syd’s work and did not know the meaning of this series. Now I do and am even more impressed with my friend.
