……….Even though I keep my private life very private, I do like being able to be open about what I do. People that only know me from the scene, don’t know all that much about my everyday life. But, all my close friends and family are in on my Rachael V life. I don’t believe in living a lie with the people that claim to love you. If you truly love me, you love every part of me, including things that are outside of your comfort zone. I’m incredibly blessed with the people I have around me, who do in fact accept me just the way I am. Some of them are interested in attending a fetish event at some point, others just drool over or laugh at the display of my shoe collection in my living room. Most of them freak out when they first touch latex, and don’t really want to try it on. I still think it’s interesting how people can have such different tastes and preferences.

In 2010 got quite busy planning shoots with whoever wanted to work with me in order to gain as much experience as I possibly could. I learned a lot from that, but also from the co-models I’ve had the pleasure of working with. In between photo shoots and school, I attended as many fetish parties as I possibly could. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the freedom, and was intrigued when I discovered that even though much more is permitted at fetish parties, men were so much more respectful than in random clubs I mostly went dancing in. Everything’s possible, but nothing’s expected and there’s so much more respect. I love that about the scene.

The American Dream
Narrative of a Dutch woman and fetish model exploring and working in the US

……….My very first introduction to latex changed my life. It happened during my second ever portfolio shoot, with photographer Steepthought of Holland. After doing two sets in pin-up style he suggested I try on the black, 0.25mm catsuit he had in his studio. I lubed up my legs and he helped me into it. Inch by inch the latex touched my legs, then my torso and lastly my arms. It had a high collar and a convenient double zipper, quite the “regular” catsuit. But it was my first, and there are no words to describe the feeling of such a super-thin layer hugging your every curve and merging with your body heat and your skin. I felt incredibly sexy, and immediately added another fetish to my list of fetishes.

I was introduced to the fetish scene in 2008 by a former boyfriend. Shopping for my first fetish outfit was incredibly exciting. The dress code for a party we attended was very newbie-friendly, so I showed up in a black Chinese dress and my brand-new pair of 6” Pleaser fetish heels. I had wanted high heels like that ever since the Spice Girls, but I always thought good girls didn’t do those things. Thankfully my eyes were opened: it’s no fun being a good girl all the time.

Barbara and Massimo from Ardita FF (www.Arditaff.com) were so kind to make me this fabulous corset especially for this cover shoot. The gorgeous abstract pattern is a variant of their trademark ‘arabesque’, and was first executed on this corset. Having acquainted myself with TW’s work, I suggested black and white for coloring, with a preference for something classic yet modern and ‘mean’. Their amazing design turned out to be a truly mean corset that comes down to the hips and really cinches down your waist. It was a delight to wear it and to take sexy pictures in it. Mel

………..When Mel arrived I thought for sure she was the model I would be working with on that particular day. The sun was shining for a change and put me in a particularly good mood for a shoot, as there was ample available light splashing the red colored walls of my Red Light District apartment in Amsterdam. I told her the makeup artist would be arriving soon to get her ready. Mel giggled and said “I am the makeup artist”.

Moments later the model called and said she would be a little late, so I asked Mel if she would like to take a few test photos while we were waiting.

Wasteland Poster Art 2005

It was the fall of 1999; I was working on an assignment in Munich, Germany for Penthouse Magazine and was scheduled to produce a shoot for Dutch art director, Onno Klein who was working for Penthouse, Holland at the time. Onno and I met in Munich to produce the shoot, and he brought along a beautiful Dutch model from Amsterdam for me to photograph at my hotel.
During the sitting, Onno kept telling me how much he thought I would love the place of his birth and that I would absolutely fall in love with the Red Light District, and the general openness of the culture in The Netherlands, as the attitudes and atmosphere in Holland at the time catered to creative types like myself. He was very convincing, and shortly after returning to the states, I received an email from him to schedule a production in Amsterdam the next time I returned to Europe.
Onno sent me pictures of a variety of Dutch models to select from, and promised to make them available for shoots upon my arrival to perhaps the most creative, liberal, international city in the world.

On my very first trip to Amsterdam, I decided to photograph a friend of the art director and well-known model by the name of Justine Bakker. Knowing that I was new to the city, Justine volunteered to show me around the beautiful quaint city and introduced me to Frans Verlinden, the owner of the famous Winston Hotel and well-known patron of the arts in Holland. Justine realized that if I met Frans, I would have direct access to many artists who worked in and around the city, including Paul Blanca, Micha Klein, Erwin Olaf, Aldert Mantje and others. Frans and I became best friends and he introduced me to his closest friends, two of them happened to be the producer’s of the grand fetish party called WASTELAND.

Frans arranged a meeting for me to meet with Wasteland organizers, Rene Meuessen and Jeroen Oosterhout. They were apparently already familiar with my work and commissioned me to produce a picture for a poster that would symbolize and promote the next Wasteland event. They also invited me to document the event as it occurred twice yearly which resulted in the publication of this monograph a decade later. I was happily introduced to the greatest party on earth.

The book is in memoriam to our dear friend and brother, Frans Verlinden who passed away suddenly and way to soon, in the spring of 2006. It would not have been created if it wasn’t for the assistance and guidance of Frans.Verlinden. We love you Frans, always.

……….The studio is pleased to announce that TW’s most recent book publication entitled WASTELAND, has been printed in France, and first edition copies are making their way to international book stores in the coming days. Unfortunately do to the volcanic eruption that took place in Iceland on Wednesday April 14th, the scheduled book signing at the April 17th Wasteland party in Amsterdam is canceled. The publisher La Musardine, Paris has made arrangements for a representative of the company to attend the party on TW’s behalf and will continue to make books available for sale at the event.
