……….It is sometimes difficult to draw the subtle line of distinction between fashion and pornography. What is the correct level, if there is any, of nudity to make the image transmit sexual appeal while maintaining a hint of class and elegance?

This series of pictures aims at answering these questions in a tentative way. Set in a messy, simple hotel-like bedroom, which is reminiscent of a typical sexual scene from an old movie, the camera captures a half-dressed woman who seemingly just woke up. The subject, Maria Beatriz Vilela, a Brazilian girl with a charming exotic face, figure, slender limbs, curvy shape and dark eyebrows fits right into the classic image of “a sexy sophisticated woman”. She seems to have a latent power of seductive charm as if she walked off the set of an old film. She is dangerous and edgy. To exaggerate such impressions, dark purple lipstick, fur, glossy shirts, and a classic pleated skirt made of leather were chosen from her personal closet.

The series is deliberately named “The Seducer” echoing the painting Le Séducteur (The Seducer) in which René Magritte evokes the curiosity and mystery of reality by depicting a surrealistic scene of water in the shape of a boat. In a similar approach, the subject in these photos, through intriguing expressions in her eyes and seductive interactions with the messy neutral bed sheets, completely drawn curtains and a displaced mirror, all of which are typical implications of an erotic affair, provokes the imagination of the viewer. Questions of “Who is she seducing?” “What are the curtains trying to hide?” and “Why is the mirror pulled down?” are naturally raised but not answered.

Questions of obviousness. Hints of temptation. Implications of sex. These are components that make a perfect seduction. At the end of the day, erotic imagery fades but fantasy lingers.
