A NIGHT OUT
.
The makeup and accessories that women wear outside often go unappreciated by men. While there is a clear difference in appearance, the specific items worn are not are not fully noticed. In this series of photographs I chose to highlight many of the popular products that women apply on a typical night out. Among those objects are eye shadow, lipstick, earrings, blush, bracelets, hair products, chokers, and nail polish.
Throughout the thought process of preparing for the shoot, many different locations were considered. For example, the series was close to being shot in front of a mirror of a bathroom. Ultimately the decision was made to photograph in a studio because of the space for multiple lights and the lack of distractions that would have potentially drawn attention away from the products that I wanted to highlight. In addition, the seamless white background serves as a great contrast to the bright red makeup and nail polish that was applied.
The model was chosen for her soft skin, ability to use angles, and facial expressions. Due to her skin tone and facial structure, the light shines very well on her face. Furthermore, the model’s great skin allows the red makeup to stand out and receive attention. In many of the shots, the model is photographed with her head slightly tilted toward the side. Given my prior experience with her, I was confident that she would be able to easily match my vision with these angles. Finally, it is very difficult for many people to appear serious but not bored. I was sure that this model had the ability to use her eyes and lips to properly portray the desired mood of the photographs.
